General information on the port of Livorno
The port of Livorno is the main port of Tuscany. It is located about 90 Km from Florence, 30 km from Pisa, 50 km from Lucca and 130 kilometers from the Cinque Terre.
The traffic of the port in terms of cruise passengers is estimated in about 1,000,000 passengers a year. Eighth place for cruise traffic in the Mediterranean Sea.
The ease of connections to and from the port for a day excursion depends on the dock where the ship docks. There are several docks used, not all are close to the city center and the railway station. The fast way to move are the highways that leads to Florence in an hour and a half, in 30 minutes to Pisa, in 40 minutes to Lucca and in about 1 hour and 45 minutes to the Cinque Terre area.
The Livorno Railway Station is about 8 kilometers from the port. From there regional trains depart to:
-Florence at least one train every hour with a journey time of about 1 hour and 30 minutes
-Pisa at least one train every thirty minutes and the duration of the trip and about 20 minutes
-Monterosso al Mare (Cinque Terre)at least one train every hour and the journey there and about an hour and 40 minutes. Please note that few train from Livorno to Monterosso are direct, most of them are with a change in the station of La Spezia.
-Lucca there are no direct trains, but you have to change trains in Pisa.
