It is not only an area of great natural beauty but it also has fine traditions and a rich cultural heritage that can be seen in its enchanting towns and medieval villages, such as Assisi, Perugia, Todi and Spoleto.

Winter: Umbria Jazz Winter Festival is hosted in Orvieto every winterUmbria

Umbria Jazz Winter, during the Christmas period, weaves together culture and tourism, good hospitality and excellent music, while utilising many of the town's beautiful buildings including the Mancinelli Theatre, Sala dei Quattrocento, Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, Palazzo dei Sette.

The festival offers the enthusiast five intense days, with famous international artists performing in the streets in the squares, the most charming places of the city, where jazz and soul music create an exciting atmosphere.

Culinary specialities include truffles, which are used in some pasta and rice dishes and la porchetta, suckling pig stuffed with rosemary and sage. Perugia is known for its chocolate and pastries.

Orvieto, the main wine in the region, is a white wine, either dry or sweet.
