This morning, you will participate in a morning cooking class with a chef at a local
farmhouse. Your morning culinary lessons will be followed by lunch consisting of
the dishes which you have helped to prepare.
This afternoon you may return to
Taormina for some time at leisure, or you may opt for an excursion to Mount Etna. You
will stop at Rifugio Sapienza, located at 1,900 m above sea level, where it is
possible to visit the small, inactive Silvestri craters.
From Rifugio Sapienza,
proceed by jeep up to 2,500 m above sea level - just under the main active craters - for an
optional walking excursion accompanied by a volcanologic conductor. There, you can
visit the site of the last big eruption of 2002 before your return to Rifugio Sapienza.
Return to your accommodations in Taormina. Dinner on your own.
This morning, you will transfer to Polizzi, an ancient village rich in
historical and artistic attractions surrounded by a cheerful countryside and green
pastures. Polizzi lies in the Madonie Mountains Natural Park, in an internal
region between the Northern Coast and Central Sicily. Here, you will enjoy a
half-day cooking lesson at a local farmhouse. The owner of the farm will teach you how
to prepare some of the most popular and traditional local recipes.
After lunch at the farm, you will proceed to Polizzi Generosa. During the walk through the town's medieval streets, you will have a break for a sampling of typical sweetmeats. You will check-in at your next hotel and have some time to rest before dinner.
Hotel: Farm House Donalegge (or similar star rating hotel)
After breakfast you will proceed with your English-speaking driver/guide to Palermo for a full-day visit to this ancient town that has been a crossroads for civilization in the Mediterranean for centuries. You will enjoy lunch on your own in town before continuing to Monreale. This ancient village near Palermo is famous for its wonderful Norman Cathedral and the adjoining cloister, and for the architectural masterpieces of King Roger II.
Return to Palermo, with time for a stroll through the city before returning to
the hotel. You will have a farewell dinner at Baglio Conca d'Oro Restaurant, a
16th century paper mill built by the Spanish noble family De Spuches. The building
has been recently restored and reconverted into a charming hotel and restaurant.
Dinner will be served in the elegant restaurant room "Le Absidi", where you will
enjoy superb and refined dishes based on typical recipes from local culinary
traditions.
Continue to the hotel in Palermo for your final night in Sicily.
After breakfast and check-out, your driver and local assistant will transfer you to the airport in Palermo to catch your departing flight.
