The medieval town of Figline Valdarno lies in a beautiful Tuscan valley just 35 kilometres south of Florence. The origin of Figline Valdarno can be traced back to the 13th century. Considered the barn of Florence because of the abundance of corn, the circle of walls, which is almost completely preserved, was built between 1356 and 1375 but didn't prevent the village from going through bloody attacks. Originally there was a castle on the opposite hills.
This ideal, tranquil location, within easy reach of cities of historical importance such as Siena and Arezzo also allows visitors the possibility to explore the rare beauty of the Tuscan countryside which is close at hand. The big square Marsilio Ficino built in 1200 (mercatale) became the place for the local market.
