You will be met at the Civitavecchia port by our private English-speaking guide and driver for your 90 minute drive to Rome. Along the way our guide will give you information on the sites you will visit during your exciting day in the Eternal City.
Your itinerary has you going by coach and/or on foot to visit the classic monuments of Rome: our local guide will take you on a pleasant stroll through the historical centre, where you can admire the Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna) Trevi Fountain, La Colonna di Marco Aurelio, the Palazzo di Montecitorio (designed by Bernini), the Pantheon (visit inside), Palazzo Madama seat of the senate and Piazza Navona.
Next, you will enjoy a panoramic city tour beginning with the most important of the Seven hills of Rome, the Capitoline - home of Jupiter, Marcello's Theatre and the Jewish Ghetto. You will be awed by the view of the ancient Imperial Palaces atop the Palatine Hill overlooking the Circus Maximum, where the Rape of the Sabines occurred. Back on foot to view the famous "Coliseum", the Arch of Titus and one of the best preserved Roman structures - the Arch of Constantine. Next we view the Roman Forum, Trajan's Column and the astounding "Wedding Cake" Monument to Victor Emmanuel in Piazza Venezia. And before departing the Eternal City, Visit St. Peter's Basilica, surrounding the world's largest church. While Bernini designed most of works found in the church, Michelangelo's Pieta is also housed here. Explore St. Peter's square before being returned to the Civitavecchia port.
